The Martha Stewart Show - OMG!!!

So last Wednesday I was sitting on my couch surfing the web. Pretty much, a regular Wednesday. I checked my Twitter page, and I saw this post...

Do I tweet about baking? Yep. About cookies? Sure, sometimes. Join the Twitter section? YES! YES! So quick as a wink, I filled out the form and applied to be a member of Martha's Twitter section for her special cookie episode.

Then I kind of forgot about it, since in applying for the show, you have to explain your twitter account. Well folks, I tell ya, @Connecticute is about as bad a tweeter as she is a blogger. So in my twitter paragraph, I said that I write about life in Connecticut, about baking, food, restaurants, whatever strikes my fancy. But I never thought they'd pick me!

On Thursday (my birthday!) I came home to an e-mail and a voice mail that said that I had been accepted into the Twitter section of Martha's audience and could I please RSVP to the e-mail. Woo hoo!

Bright and early on Monday morning, I took the train from Connecticut down to Grand Central, I took 2 subways to Martha's studio in Chelsea and stood in a line. After the audience goes in, we're seated in a holding room. This was one of them.

I just liked this! Martha's name is on a shelf on the wall, next to a TV that plays videos of other episodes of Martha's shows for the audience to watch while they're waiting to go up to the studio.
This is Joey. He's Martha's audience warm-up guy. He told us that only 1 in 30 audiences ever get to sample the food on the show. Well, lucky for us, we were that 1! He told us that we would be sampling sugar cookies, Mexican hot chocolate cookies, and cranberry coin cookies. Woo hoo! It was my lucky day!
Then we went upstairs into the studio for the taping. We watched as Martha made sugar cookies with Nicholas Callaway, the chairman of Callaway Digital Arts. His company made the Martha Stewart Cookie app for iPad. I highly recommend the app; it's beautiful and functional and the cookies are delicious! These were definitely the best sugar cookies I've ever eaten in my life.

After that, we saw Kenan Thompson who made coconut cream sandwich cookies with Martha. We didn't get to try them, but they sure looked awesome!

The next segment was Martha making mice cookies with 9 year old Sam. They looked like pretty fun cookies.

Then we had John Barricelli of the SoNo Baking Company making Mexican hot chocolate cookies. They were spicy, not hot spicy, but that ginger-y kind of spice, like Christmas. I was psyched to have a fellow Connecticutian on the show!

After the Mexican hot chocolate segment, Martha showed us how to package cookies as gifts.

It was one of the fastest hours to ever pass. First we sat in our seats, the show went live at 10:00, I noticed the clock on my iPad as I tweeted at about 10:25, then suddenly Martha was wrapping up the show!

After the show was over, Martha stayed behind for a few minutes to take some photos and answer some of our questions.
She took a picture with the tweeters sitting in the Twitter section! (That's me in the pink on the right!) It was a fabulous day of fun and new Twitter friends!

When I got home, I unpacked my swag bag. It was such a lucky day! I got a copy of Dog Fancy/Adopted Dog magazine. I showed it to the CutePup, but she really didn't care. Her reading skills aren't that good. I also got a copy of holiday cookie magazine, a rolling pin, a sifter, and a package of treat bags for cookie gift-giving.
It was a great day, and I highly recommend going to the Martha Stewart show if you ever have the chance!
